Global Rubber Demand
April 5, 2022
The world total rubber consumption contracted by 6.2% in 2020, with a deeper contraction for Tyre sector (-7.3%) over Non-Tyre Product sector (-4.2%). Strong recovery in China, supported by the commercial vehicle tyre sector, helped to offset part of the decline in the rest of the world. Global NR consumption declined by 7% in 2021 while SR consumption declined to a lesser extent by 6.3%. Efforts to contain the pandemic has led to wide-ranging restrictions on passenger transportation, labour mobility and hours worked, which steered significant decline in economic activity globally and sales drop in global vehicles and tyres.
